Central Library, Kumaun University, Nainital

            The university was established its Central Library in the year 1980 with the financial support of U.G.C. & State Govt. The university central library become able to strengthening library facilities specially to the researchers and other users by the use of advance information technology between the 09^th & 10^th plan period. This library has registered as member library of Information and Library Network Centre (INFLIBNET) (IUC of UGC) in the year 1997-98 and under UGC-INFONET digital library consortium programme. Currently library automation is going with the financial help from State Govt.

Key Features of Central Library Collection-

-         65000 Titles of Reference/Text Books available in the library.

-         120 Printed Journals/Magazines subscribed by the library.

-         Approx 4000 online journals of different publishers (National/International) are made available to the user’s under the UGC-INFONET programme of INFLIBNET.

-         A small separate collection on Himalaya

-         4000 Ph.D. thesis available in the Central Library.

Services-

-         Circulation of study materials to members (only research scholars, faculty member, non-teaching staff of the university).

-         On site consultation of reference materials thesis/other study material are available to members of the library, UG/PG students of the university & other users.

-         CAS (Current Awareness Services) and SDI (Selective Dissemination Services) are provided to the users. Due to shortage of trained professional’s these services are not so effective.

-         Reprographic services are being provided to the users. But this facility needs more attention in term of equipments & manpower.

-         Inter library loan facility is available for campus library. In mean future we are in process to expand this service to all the affiliated colleges.

-         Information Centre- Library has a well equipped information centre. Information centre is currently working in a networked environment with 25 computers and 3 servers. In this centre we are in process to develop a digital repository of Kumaun University with D-Space software. Internet services are made available to the users with V-SAT connectivity.
